Taplejung, Feb 1: The District Hospital Taplejung is facing shortage of essential medicines.
Despite government’s flurry of instructions to the staff to not allow shortage of medicines to disrupt services, the hospital is yet to receive the cost-free medicines provided by the central authorities since the last five months.
The hospital does not have cetamol and metro tablets among other essential medicines. As the shortage has hit the district hospital itself, the concerned authorities have not been able to supply the medicines to the rural sector.
The hospital had purchased 33 types of different medicines in the district to troubleshoot the crisis, but it is not a sustainable solution. Many patients in the district have been forced to head to neighboring districts to seek treatment.
The government has been providing 70 types of medicines cost-free from the district hospital whereas it provides 58 and 35 medicines for free from primary health centres and health posts respectively. RSS
