Parsa, Feb 5: The police in Parsa have made public a woman arrested on the charge of stealing a newborn from a hospital bed. She is Lalasa Devi Saha of Belawa-9 and was made public Sunday- three days after the incident- through a press meet.
She had allegedly stolen the baby boy from the Gynaecological Ward’s bed number 65 of Narayani Sub Regional Hospital, Birgunj. Asadevi Paswan, spouse of Mukesh Paswan of Chhapkaiya of Birghunj Municipality-2 gave birth to the boy at 10:00 am Friday. Surprisingly, the baby went missing from the hospital bed after three hours of birth and an indentified woman was reported running away with him.
Central Regional Police Office, Makwanpur’s Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Pashupati Upadhyay, said the police became successful in rescuing the missing boy safely within 48 hours of the incident. The baby was rescued at 2:00 pm Sunday itself.
The accused admitted to whisking away with the child from the hospital as what she claimed her want for a baby prompted her to take this move as she is deprived of motherhood even after the five years of marriage.
The baby suffers minor health problems and has been admitted to the hospital’s ICU ward.
The accused will be tried under a case as per the existing laws, police said.
