Kathmandu, Sept 6: In view of the third national general convention of Nepal Women Association (NWA) –woman wing of the Nepali Congress, conventions in 73 districts have been held to date.
Conventions have been held in 73 districts except Nuwakot and Rupandehi districts for the third general convention taking place in Kathmandu on 14-16 September, said NWA central member Hari Prabha Khadgi.
The NWA is holding its general convention after the first meeting of the NC central committee based on the decision of the party’s 13th general convention to hold the general conventions of its all sister organizations within six months.
As many as 2,244 delegates across the country are eligible to vote in the general convention, informed leader Indira Tiwari.
The NWA was established under the leadership of Mangala Devi Singh some 69 years ago to demand democracy and democratic value systems in the country.
The existing NWA working committee members are not allowed to field their candidacy in the coming general convention.
So far different candidates including Meena Pandey, Rukmini Koirala, Goma KC and Pratima Gautam are in the fray for the post of President in the general convention taking place after a long gap. RSS
