Lalitpur, Sept 6: Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has said the foreign policy should be formulated with a focus on national interests and needs of the country.
At an interaction organized here on Tuesday by the Nepal Council of World Affairs on ‘Landmarks of Nepalese Foreign Policy’, Minister Dr Mahat said there is no alternative to pursue a foreign policy that would contribute to make a prosperous Nepal. “The more important in the making of foreign policy is the activism to use it for the country’s prosperity”, he added.
The Minister also spoke of the importance to make the relations with the neighbouring countries truly like that of the neighbours. He also pointed out the need of building foreign policy in a way to strengthen bilateral relations of confidence.
He also stressed that the foreign policy could be made robust with the expansion of relations through diplomacy. He laid emphasis on strengthening the time-honoured interdependent relations with India.
As Nepal’s relations with China is historically good, it should be further taken to a new height, he added.
Dr Mahat expressed his confidence that the imminent India visit by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal would help enhance Nepal-India relations to a new point. He further noted that the Indian President would also visit Nepal following Prime Minister Dahal’s visit to India.
Council Chairperson Dr Rajendra Bahadur Shrestha said that the robust foreign policy can only make the country’s development possible. RSS
