Kathmandu, Sept 9: Minister for Information and Communications Surendra Kumar Karki has called on media to give due space to positive news.
During his visit to the Office of Press Council Nepal today, Minister Karki, who is also the government Spokesperson, said dissemination of fabricated news assassinating anyone’s character must be discouraged. He expressed his concern over newspaper’s miser attitude by giving a tiny corner seeking regrets over the dissemination of false and fabricated news.
The government was working out on a plan on the introduction of new technologies in country’s IT sector, he said.
On the occasion, Council Chair Borna Bahadur Karki said the Council decision to conduct competency tests of those wishing to pursue career in journalism is aimed at maintaining media ethnics, bolstering fair and professional journalism. He urged the government to bring the online media guidelines into force soon.
According to information shared by Council Chief Officer Jhabindra Bhusal, discussions were going on to open its provincial offices in the seven provinces (proposed).
The Council, a government body to monitor media content, was established in 2027 BS with a view to promoting standards of a free press in a democratic society. RSS
