Kanchanpur, Oct 23: Minimum Wage Determination Committee Chairman, Poshan KC, has said although the Working Journalists Act is in the implementation stages it has been a challenge to bring it into action.
At an interactive programme on the scenario of implementation of the Working Journalists Act held at Mahendranagar on Saturday, KC emphasized that the journalists must become professional and capable as the journalism sector continues to remain a challenging sphere.
Underlining the huge contribution the media has played in establishing social and political rights, KC opined that journalists’ professional issue still remains to be settled. We have been pressing for implementing proportional advert system, KC added, while mentioning that the media in the mofussil should also receive advertisements.
On the occasion, Committee’s former Chair, Khem Bhandari, said the provision for fixation of the minimum wages for working journalists has been arranged scientifically. There is a huge demand for able journalists in the market, Bhandari said, adding that the allowance in par with the demand would be possible only if there are able journalists.
Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) former Vice President and National News Agency (RSS) Board of Directors’ member, Gangadhar Parajuli, said the problems faced by the working journalists across the country were the same and called for gaining competence to make the profession disciplined and professional.
Nepal Press Union senior Vice Chairman, Dipak Acharya, stressed on the need for journalists to receive minimum allowance. The journalists participating in the programme put forth their problems and complaints with Committee Chairman KC. RSS
