Sindhuli, Oct 24: As many as 3500 quake victims in the district are yet to receive house reconstruction grant as they had been living in unregistered land properties.

Unless the government works to provide land to such people for private house reconstruction agreement there cannot be any such agreement, a local Badri Lal Mahji said.

The District Development Committee (DDC), Sindhuli has already informed the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) of the problem whereas the quake-stricken have been assured of information in the coming few days.

The villagers living in the unregistered land property do not even possess minimal documents to prove that they own the land. The NRA will have to issue an instruction so as to reach grant agreements with the villagers without land ownership documents.

The government has reached reconstruction grant agreements with 81 per cent of the population spread across two municipalities and 50 village development committees (VDCs) in Sindhuli.

The remaining 19 per cent do not have complete documents and are faced with problems related to the land properties. This is creating legal hurdles in reaching a grant agreement for issuance of the first tranche of grant assistance for reconstruction of their houses. RSS
