Myagdi, Nov 7: Two families of a village located in the thicket of a jungle are now looking for an alternate settlement after failing to save their crops from ravenous wild animals.
The locals of Lareni village of Bhakimli – 9 in Myagdi are being overwhelmed by monkeys and porcupines. The families of Surya Kisan and Hari Kisan have decided to move out.
Surya said that his family was faced with no option but to leave the village as they could not stop the monkeys and porcupines from ravaging the crops planted in their fields. The villagers have been spending whole nights guarding the fields with domestic weapons including torchlight and fire, but still have failed to stop the animals from destroying their crops.
“We have used all domestic ideas to stop them but it has been unsuccessful. We have decided to move out of the village,” said Dale Chamarkar, a local villager. The village currently has four families. Chamarkar said that the effort to stop the animals even risked the lives of the villagers and they were forced to leave for protection of their women and children.
The villagers can reap only 20 per cent of the total crops planted in their fields. They have been cultivating maize, potato, wheat and millet to make a living. The villagers have been buying the food commodities from other villages as they have not been able to harvest their crops.
The villagers requested VDC Secretary, Shiva Prasad Sharma, for taming the wild animals, but in vain. “It is difficult to solve their problem. The path leading to the village itself is dangerous, I have appealed to them to move to an alternate location,” he said. RSS
