Quartz awaits excavation in Mygadi

Myagdi, Nov 7: The State is losing millions in revenue since the excavation of the expensive mineral, quartz, traced at Gurja VDC in Myagdi district is not carried out yet.
Due to the State’s apathy and complicated legal procedure for minerals extraction, the mineral deposit situated at the bottom of the Gurja Mountain in the district is yet to be extracted, locals grieve.
Quartz, the hard glossy mineral consisting of silicon dioxide in crystal form, is often used in precious stones as diamond and pearls among others.
Local leader Jhak Prasad Chhantyal opined that the excavation of raw quartz found in the locality would provide jobs to hundreds and gain revenue in millions.
The locals came to know about the mineral as the areas with quartz deposits used to shine at night, shared local Chhantyal.
Similarly, Rajesh Shakya, General-Secretary at the Myagdi Chamber of Commerce and Industry stated that had there been clear laws and hassle-free legal procedure for excavation of minerals, traders would have already made millions out of the quartz lying beneath the ground.
According to him, some local traders had attempted to extract three tons of raw quartz few years ago but they were held by police. Thereafter the interest of traders in the subject waned.
He added that many places with mineral deposits here have turned into human settlements lately. RSS
