400 untoward garbage dumpers booked in Lalitpur

Lalitpur, Nov 10: As many as 400 people dumping trashes in the public and restricted places in Lalitpur have been arrested until the four months of the current fiscal year.
The Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City, in a bid to curb haphazard dumping of wastes and help make Lalitpur district clean, has intensified action against those littering public places.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at the Lalitpur City Police, Kadam Lal Maharjan, the City Police have been working in tandem with the Nepal Police to take action against untoward garbage dumpers.
DSP Maharjan shared, “We have intensified monitoring the activities of the public and institutions related with the solid waste management in major market areas in Lalitpur such as Lagankhel, Kupandol, Natole, Jwagal and Sanepa Bagmati Corridor among other places.”
Furthermore, the Lalitpur City Police is preparing to keep vigil over those disposing garbage in public places in all 30 VDCs in the Lalitpur Sub-metropolitan City, according to DSP Maharjan.
The City Police has also launched an awareness campagin towards this end.
Under the Waste Management Act-2068, those found guilty of disposing garbage in prohibited zones face a three-month jail term or Rs 500 to Rs 10,000 in fine or both according to the nature of offence. RSS
