Kathmandu, Nov 11: The world’s biggest Thangka art paintings by artists of 16 countries have been put on display at Dasharath Stadium from Friday.
The Thangka art painting with the length of 70-metre and breadth 50-metre was made on the occasion of the establishment of 60 years of the Nepal-Japan diplomatic relation. A team led by Nepali artist Surya Bahadur Thakali and Japanese artist Yasuka Tatagi prepared the art painting depicting life cycle of Lord Gautam Buddha.
Inaugurating the expo, Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat stressed that precepts of Lord Buddha should be spread across the globe since the path shown by Buddha is the path of human civilization.
Minister Dr Mahat said, “The Thangka art will play a significant role to recognize and spread Buddha’s precepts throughout the world.”
Similarly, Japanese Ambassador to Nepal, Mashasi Ogawa, said the Thangka exhibition would further strengthen Nepal-Japan relations, adding Japanese Embassy would organise various programmes on the occasion of 6oth anniversary of Nepal-Japan diplomatic tie.
Former State Minister for Labour, Tek Bahadur Gurung, said Nepal could be a central hub of tourism attraction if the government keeps the world’s largest Thangka in Nepal.
It was possible with 12-year-long hard work of Nepali artist Thakali, Japanese artist Tatagi and other artists to come up with the biggest Thangka art painting.
The Thangka will be put on display in Kathmandu on Friday and Saturday, in Pokhara on November 20 and 21 and in Lumbini on November 26 and 27. Manag Sewa Samaj organized the exhibition. RSS
