Nepal Academy to correct comprehensive Nepali dictionary

Kathmandu, Nov 17: Nepal Academy has finally decided to correct the comprehensive Nepali dictionary in view of the controversy over the spelling of Nepali language.
The meeting of the Academic Council on Tuesday took this decision, said Academy Chancellor Ganga Prasad Uprety. “Although the effort was made for change in Nepali language, it created furor among academia, students and linguists. Now, we will prepare grammar ensuring acceptability to all,” he added.
Amidst the furor over the change in spelling of Nepali language, various campaigns as Save Language Movement, has begun exerting pressure on the Academy to review the spelling. In response, the Academy had formed a task force under the coordination of Prof Dr Chudmani Bandhu.
After the Academy made efforts for the change as per time in the Nepali grammar, the controversy reached the Supreme Court. RSS
