Kathmandu, Aug 31: Minister for Education Dhani Ram Poudel today emphasised the need to make libraries across the country technology- friendly alongside the development of science and technology. Acknowledging the importance of library, he also pitched for digitalising it.
“Library is a sea of knowledge. The boundary of knowledge spread across the world. So library should be made reliable and sustainable,” he said.
The minister was speaking at the event organised to mark the 9th Library Day in the Capital.
Similarly on the occasion, Officiating Education Secretary Dr Dilli Ram Rimal said it was the need of the hour to expand the reach of library across the country in cooperation with the government and non-governmental organisations, explaining that library was first established as the source of knowledge and the symbol of civilisation.
Also, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Education Hari Lamsal, Vice Chairman of the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training Dr Kul Bahadur Basnet, representative of the Rehabilitation, Empowerment and Development, Nepal Chinkaji Shrestha, campaigner for library development Ashok Thapa and Dasharath Mishra also pitched for making necessary laws for the development of library.
Meanwhile, people from various walks of life and various organisations were honoured for their contribution to the development of library. RSS
