Bir hospital to be made a people’s hospital: Health minister

Kathmandu, Sept 1: Health Minister Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that the Bir Hospital should become a ‘hospital of the people’.

Speaking in course of visit to the hospital on Thursday, Minister Thapa said as hospital belongs to people of all sections of the society, atmosphere should be established for easily accessible quality service. ‘As Bir is a source of faith for all the Nepali citizen’s the services it provides must be people-friendly,’ he said.
On the occasion, he directed the hospital authorities to come up with a 100 days’ action plan within a week.
Vice-chancellor of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, Bir Hospital Dr Ganesh Gurung apprised Minister Thapa of the state of affairs of the hospital.
Meanwhile, during the visit, Minister Thapa met Ganga Maya Adhikari, who has been admitted to the ICU of the hospital after her health deteriorated since she began a fast-unto-death two weeks back. Adhikari has been holding a hunger strike since the past six years demanding action against the murderers of her son, killed during the armed conflict in the country.
