Melamchi (Sindhupalchok), Jan 26: Victims of the earthquake of April 25, 2015 of the district will avail of free house sketches to build earthquake resilient houses.
Those victims who have rendered disabled due to the quake and suffered other human losses, from weak economic status and are single are entitled to the facility.
The scheme under the Community Resilience and Development Programme of the United Nations Development Programme will be funded by Pulchowk Engineering College and Japanese Government and coordinated by Melamchi Municipality.
Minimum eight families from each ward of the total 15 in the district will avail of the facility following municipality recommendations for the same after identifying genuine quake victims who have met the aforementioned criteria, said executive chief of the municipality Purna Prasad Dulal.
The scheme aims to help poorest quake victims who cannot afford it to build new houses for them, he said.
To begin with, a team of 30 engineers have already started drawing house sketches for the quake victims by setting up camps in Melamchi.
Engineer at the municipality Rajesh Sharma said engineers will identify suitable place to construct house for quake victims and start drawing house sketches following quake victim’s demand for the same with necessary documents and recommendations from concerned ward of the municipality. The drive will run for three days. On Wednesday alone, 10 teams of two each have reached Shikharpur and Talamarang for the same.
