Kathmandu, Sept 2: The construction of Hetauda-Kathmandu fast track that was obstructed due to the recent Madhesh unrest and subsequent fuel crisis in the country caused by the border blockade has been expedited.
The widening of the 90- km track is taking place on a full-swing, according to track construction project Chief Deepak KC. The project developers have a plan to complete the widening task within the current fiscal. Though the project developers earlier had the deadline for carrying out the fast track widening till mid January this year, it was left unmet as fuel crisis caused by the border blockade hampered the construction works.
The second deadline — mid July this year — again missed due to impact of previous adversities. The track is expected to be highly useful for the movement of small and big vehicles from Hetuada to Kathmandu and vice-versa. The existing breadth of the track is three to five meters and it will be extended to 8:30 meters, KC said.
The Kanthipath Road Project has been awarded the contract for constructing 79 kilometer section (from Hetaunda to Tikabhairab) of the road and remaining 11 kilometer section from Tikabhairab to Satdobato Chapagaun will be built by the Division of Road Office, Lalitpur.
The government this year had allocated Rs 390 million for the project construction. Around Rs 470 million was already spent in the name of fast track construction here. RSS
