Health Minister Thapa meets Dr KC, discusses about his demands

Kathmandu, Sept 2: Health Minister Gagan Kumar Thapa met with Professor Dr Govinda KC on Friday and held discussions about his demands put for reform in medical sector for long.
The Health Minister reached the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) to meet hospital’s senior orthopedic surgeon Dr KC who has long been advocating for reforms in country’s health sector.
Dr KC had recently ended his 8th hunger strike being assured by the government that his demands would be addressed.
In response, the Health Minister said individually he was always in favour of the voices of Dr KC and the Ministry was working positively to respond to his demands.
Free enrolment in all seats of the government health institutes, establishment of at least one government medical college in all proposed provinces and no affiliation to any medical college for the Kathmandu Valley for upcoming 10 years are among the demands of Dr KC.
His demands also included an initiation of impeachment process against Chief of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, Lokman Singh Karki, by the Legislature-Parliament at the earliest and full enforcement of the report of the Mathema Committee on Health Professional Education Policy. He had warned that he would sit for the fast-onto-death again if his demands fell on deaf ears. RSS
