90 kg unhygienic meat destroyed in Kathmandu alone

Kathmandu, Sept 2: A monitoring team comprising representatives from Department of Supply Management, Consumer’s Welfare Protection Department seized and destroyed a total of 90 kg of unhygienic meat from various meat shops in Kathmandu city alone, on Friday.
The Department, which has been stepping up the inspection of the meat shops and eateries in various locations in the Kathmandu Valley since mid-August, has seized 72 kg of inedible meat and 18 kg of sausage from KC Chicken Store in Balaju.
The team has instructed Balaju Meat Shop and Shyama Meat Shop in Balaju to submit the registration certificate to the Department within three days.
These meat shops were found operating without proper registration, according to Anandaram Regmi, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Supply.
Similarly, two other meat shops in the locality- Manakamana Marketing Store at Gongabu and KC Chicken Store in the vicinity were found running without registration.
“These meat shops too have been directed to present necessary documents within three days to the Department, said Spokesperson Regmi.
The Department inspected four meat shops on Friday, while monitored various shops, enterprises and firms totaling 421, said a press release issued by the Ministry. RRS
