UN Representative Umezu calls on NC President

Kathmandu, Sept 4: United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)’s South Asia Team Leader, Shin Umezu, on Sunday called on Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba at latter’s residence, Budhanilkantha, in the capital.
During the meeting, Deuba briefed Umezu that the NC would take lead role in bringing together all political parties and charting the future course of action on consensus, cooperation and unity to institutionalise and stabilise the democracy while implementing the constitution of the federal, democratic and republic Nepal, said NC Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Poudel.
Noting that all political, social and economic changes in the country had taken place and been successful under the leadership of the NC, the former Prime Minister also said that the NC ever has the responsibility to build the nation as the oldest and the largest democratic party in the Parliament.
The NC was playing a frontline role in taking the country to the path of economic prosperity after ensuring political stability, Poudel quoted Deuba as saying.
In return, ensuring continuous support from the UNDP to get Nepal pursued prosperity and strengthened rule of law and democracy, UN representative Umezu said that the global body was ready to extend cooperation to hold local body elections in Nepal. RSS
