Kathmandu, June 2: The leaders of the eight political parties representing in the Parliament including the main opposition party, CPN (UML) held discussions regarding the process of electing the new Prime Minister but could not come to a concrete decision.
In the meeting that convened at the UML’s parliamentary party office in Singha Durbar today, the main opposition party expressed its stance that the Parliament would not be allowed to meet and the process for the election of the new Prime Minister could not take place until the vote counting under the first-phase local level election in Bharatpur Metropolitan City was resumed.
Deputy leader of the CPN (UML) parliamentary party Subas Nembang said that the process for the election of the new Prime Minister could not start based on the past tradition and practices in the context of the information contained in the letter send by the Office of the President to the Parliament remaining to be presented in the parliament meeting.
The parties have started separate home work after they could not agree on the topic of election process of the new Prime Minister even in the meeting of the Parliament Business Advisory Committee that Speaker Onsari Gharti had convened earlier today to discuss and agree on the issue. The committee is meeting again after a short while to arrive at a decision on the issue.
Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) chairman Kamal Thapa said he put forth his party’s views in the eight-party meeting that the Bharatpur vote counting should be immediately started and the CPN (UML) too should cooperate in the Prime Minister election process by removing the parliament obstruction.
He stated that his party and the UML also reviewed the topic of first-phase local election. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ had resigned from his post on May 24.
