Kathmandu, August 4: Minister for Information and Communications, Mohan Bahadur Basnet has said that he was engaged in creating a media-friendly environment in the country.
Minister Basnet said this while addressing to an interaction on ‘Role of Federalism in Economic Prosperity and the Possibility of Development of Tourism Destinations in Federalism’, organized to mark the sixth anniversary of the ‘Artha ra Byapar’, an economic and business weekly published by Point Media Pvt Ltd, here today.
He said the media development was his main priority as he said the country could develop only with the development of the media.
“The future of those working in the media sector is uncertain. I understanding this sector well,” the Information and Communications Minister said and called on the media people to give him oral and written suggestions for the development and expansion of the media sector.
Stating that the country has moved forward towards the constitution implementation phase with the completion of the local level elections, he said the government’s main aim now is to propel the country ahead on the path of economic development after holding the three tiers of the elections.
Shyam Prasad Giri, President of Federation of Nepal Cottage and Small Industries, was of the view of laying a special focus on the promotion of tourism sector carrying high potentiality.
Journalist Pradeep Neupane praising the contribution of Weekly to the sector of journalism, suggested its publishers the continuity of inclusion of strong contents for its effective presence and sustainability.
According to organisation managing director Nabin Kafle, the Weekly that was formally launched five years ago has now entered the online system also.
On the occasion Dubai-based Nepali entrepreneur Om Prasad Upreti and journalist Sharad Raj Subedi of Gorkhapatra Daily were given this year’s ‘ Economic and Business Award’ carrying the purse of Rs 15,000 each.
