Myagdi, Sept 7: The Mauna Brata (observing the vow of silence) ensures a considerable peace of mind but a man in Myagdi district has been observing the vow of silence for 16 consecutive years wishing peace in the world.

Ramananda Saraswati, who hails from Janakpur in Dhanusha district and has been residing at Mangalaghat in Beni in the district for some time now, has been observing the restraint of speech since 2000.

The 51-year-old, explaining the reason behind his silence in his diary, stated that he was fed up of the mundanities of everyday life of people marred by the gruesome experiences due to rampant disturbances and disorders in the world, rage, poverty and violence among others and took a refuge in silence.

The elderly told RSS that he keeps himself busy with bustle of religious activates although he has been strictly avoiding interpersonal communications for more than a decade and half.

Ramananda Saraswati through his diary mentioned that he reads holy scriptures and Vedic literatures such as ‘Shreemad Bhagavada Geeta, ‘Mahabharata’ and ‘Ramayan’ and purans and the like.

Also, interesting as it may sound but this man clamoring for world peace in silence avoids grains and only eats fruits as his daily meal.

Reaffirming his commitment for his solemn vow he wrote, “I will not give up my vow of silence until peace prevails in the world. I will not intake grains either.”

Ramananda also shared that many people come to visit him from adjacent districts as Baglung, Parbat, Kaski as well as from the capital city to appreciate his deed and express their solidarity for the noble cause he is undertaking. RSS
