Biratnagar, Sept 21: Minister for Federal Affairs and Local Development, Hit Raj Pandey, today said the local body elections will be held on time.
Addressing a unity campaign programme held by CPN (Maoist Centre) at Biratnagar Sub Metropolitan City, Minister Pandey said the government was committed to holding the local body elections at the stipulated time in order to implement the new constitution.
Minister Pandey said there may be a reshuffle in the number of local body units presented by the Reconstruction Commission and spoke of a likelihood of an increment in the number.
It is challenging to form village, town and metropolitan municipalities at the local level, Minister Pandey warned, while stressing on the need of support from all the parties in the undertaking.
The government has already made public the locations for establishment of the High Courts in all seven provinces, Minister Pandey said on the occasion.
He took note of a constitutional provision allowing for the determination of the provincial capitals with the backing of the two thirds majority of the elected representatives of the federal provinces. RSS
