Kathmandu, Sept 21: Minister for Information and Communications Surendra Kumar Karki today noted that the media was disseminating more negative than positive news these days, and appealed to put an end to such trend.
Inaugurating the 1st Unity Conference of Press Centre Nepal Province no 3 here, Minister Karki said, “After getting up in the morning if you look through the newspaper from the front page to the last page, it would seem they are giving space for only negative news.”
Minister Karki, who is also Nepal Government Spokesperson, pointed out that the newspapers were unnecessarily assassinating individuals’ characters by publishing unfounded news stories rather than undertaking investigative journalism when informing the people.
Many individuals are found to be issuing threats in name of journalists to ask for money and publishing wrong reports in order to assassinate the character of the person not giving into the demand for money which is killing creativity in journalism, Karki stressed.
On the occasion, Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) General Secretary Ujir Magar, Press Centre Nepal Coordinator Govinda Acharya, Press Chautari Nepal Chairman Ganesh Basnet and FNJ former General Secretary Om Sharma pressed for implementing the provision guaranteeing minimum salary for working journalists.
