Kanchanpur, Sept 25: The Forest Office, Kanchanpur has provided compensation to the famers suffering losses to their harvest-ready crops from straying wild elephants.
The Forest Office compensated the farmers of Tribhuvanbasti, Parasan, Raikwar Bichawa and Baisebichawa at a rate of Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000 on basis of the evaluation of the losses incurred, said Shiva Prasad Sharma, Chief of the Forest Office.
“Until now the elephants have caused a loss of around Rs 700,000 to the farmers, so we decided to provide the compensation,” he said.

He said recommendations were sent to the Regional Forest Directorate for the compensation on basis of the farmer’s application, evaluation of the Agriculture Development Office and verification of the land ownership document and citizenship certificate.
The wild elephants usually feed on harvest-ready paddy, sugarcane and wheat. RSS
