SQC National Convention next month

Bhaktapur, Sept 26: The 12th National Convention on Student Quality Circle (SQC) as co-curricular activity in educational institutions will take place next month.

At a press conference held on Sunday here, QUEST – Nepal Chairman, Niranjan Adhikari, said the conference will be held on October 21 and 22 at the Military Residential Undergraduate College at Sallaghari.

The Convention will see participation of more than 1200 principals, teachers and students from across the country, he added. Students from 16 hubs selected by QUEST Nepal will be given the opportunity to attend the national convention.

The participating students will present the experiences on their dealing with psychosocial problems and other issues.

QUEST-Nepal’s senior Vice Chairman, Raj Kumar Maharjan, said the students will showcase their talents through a flurry of programmes as public hearings, Nepali Parliament and Question and Answer sessions.

The Undergraduate College Principal and QUEST-Nepal executive member, Samim A Samim, said the convention will help groom the students into developing all round qualities, smartness and righteousness.

The provenance of Quality Control Circle can be traced back to year 1963, when it was developed as an industrial sector by Japan. It was later implemented into the educational sector by Dr Jagadish Gandhi in 1999.

The system gained informal access into Nepali schools as Student Quality Circle in the same year under an initiative taken by Prof Dinesh Chapagain. The SQC was formally inducted into school curriculum by Mount View English Boarding School marking its formal entrance as co-curricular school activity, according to QUEST Nepal Vice Chairman Maharjan.
