Kathmandu, Sept 27: Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal (RPP-N) and other fringe political parties today said any agreement made by big three political parties unilaterally by bypassing the proposal of the Local Body Restructuring Commission, would not be acceptable to them.
The commission has proposed for setting up 556 local units down from over 4,000 under the new federal setup.
At today’s Legislature-Parliament, they argued that it would be against the constitution if the restructuring of local bodies are based on Ilaka (area) of the District Development Committee.
RPP-N chief whip Dilnath Giri said they have heard of the news that the big three parties agreed to the restructuring of local units basing DDC’s Ilakas. “It will go against the constitution and will be mockery to the democratic norms if this is the case,” he said.
Similarly, Jangilal Yadav of the Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party viewed that local body elections could not take place until the issues of Madhes were resolved, adding that the restructuring of local units needs should be carried out at the consent of the protesting parties. RSS
