Kathmandu, Aug 28: Lawmakers at today’s Legislature-Parliament meeting drew the attention of the government to various current issues including the disputed matters of restructuring of local units.
Lawmaker Bharat Khadka identified the restructuring of local units as a ‘serious issue’, putting his views that the numbers of local units, determined without taking into account the geographical situation of mountain, hill and Tarai regions, are unscientific and impractical.
He went on to express his views that political consensus is a must as the issue is a political one and the number should be around 927 on the basis of population and geography.
Likewise, Amanlal Modi emphasised the need for improving public transport system amid the reports of increasing road accidents and other various plights of passengers.
He also asked the government to speed up under construction of roads and road widening across the country.
Sushil Kumar Shrestha pitched for giving justice to Ganga Maya Adhikari, who is on a strike at Bir Hospital, demanding the immediate arrests of the murderers of her son Krishna Prasad killed during the Maoist decade-long insurgency.
Likewise, Anuradha Thapa Magar expressed her reservation about the reports of territorial encroachment by India along the no man’s land and about government’s decision to revoke former government’s decision to construct Kathmandu-Nijgadh Fast Track with Nepal’s own investment and re-award an Indian company the contract.
Also, Dr Dimpal Kumari Jha drew the government’s attention to increasing road accidents and demanded medical treatment for the injured. RSS
