Pokhara, Oct 3: Speakers at a programme held on the occasion of the International Day of Non- Violence expressed a joint commitment to discourage animal sacrifices in temples and religious shrines in name of religion.
During the interaction on minimizing the scale of animal sacrifices held by Woman for Social Awareness here, they pledged to stop animal sacrifices at the temples and oppose such acts.
“None of the religion condones the animal sacrifice as a religious act,” said Coordinator Sarita Ghimire and urged others to press for creating this awareness during the Bada Dashain festival and maintain cleanliness.
Joint Regional Administrator, Diwakar Bastola, called on the people to end the trend of sacrificing animals at their houses.
On the occasion, Bhagawat Bhaskar Youth Pandit, Kamalnayan Gautam, shared that the religious scriptures have not mentioned that by sacrificing animals one would be carrying out a religious act and receive blessings.
Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) central member and coordinator of the campaign against animal sacrifice, Sushma Poudel, said the Social Awareness group had been launching a campaign against social defects and misguided tradition.
Rights activist, Madhav Pahari, pointed out that the people rather than killing the anger, lust, desire and arrogance within them were instead killing innocent animals which can never be religion and knowledge driven act. RSS
