Don’t expect much from BRICS Summit: Leader Dr Mahat

Kathmandu, Oct 16: Nepali Congress leader and former Foreign Minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat has said it was not good to expect much from BRICS Summit, as there would not be any achievements for Nepal except the bilateral meetings.
At a programme organised by Reporters’ Club here Sunday, leader Dr Mahat said, “We should not expect much because Nepal is not the member of BRICS.”
The BRICS Summit is taking place in Goa, India. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal is also attending the Summit as the head of the government from the observer nation.
Stressing the need of making relations stronger with the neighboring countries–India and China, leader Mahat expressed the view that Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal should pay more attention on the matter relating to bilateral cooperation as India and China are Nepal’s markets.
He further said Nepal could be important corridor for trilateral partnership.
On a different note, leader Mahat said that the government should hold extensive discussions to address the demands of various disgruntled sides including Madhes parties on the constitution amendment. He also stressed the need of holding election of local bodies as per the old governance system as local bodies lacked people’s representatives for long. RSS
