NC to take initiative for constitution amendment

Kathmandu, Oct 25: Nepali Congress has decided to take initiative to amend constitution by holding discussions with all political parties- those in parliament, in government, the opposition, and the agitating ones.
The ongoing central working committee meeting of the party on Tuesday reiterated party stand that it was for amending constitution to address the demands raised by the Tarai/Madhes parties, and resolving disputes on provincial border to hold the elections in all three-tiers within 2018 January. For this, the party would continue discussions with wider stakeholders.
Similarly, party drew the attention of all to create atmosphere conducive for the local body reconstruction commission to accomplish its task as per political parties’ suggestion, and for the country to hold local body elections on time.
At today’s meeting, party President Sher Bahadur Deuba, senior leader Ramchandra Poudel, General Secretary Dr Sashank Koirala, Treasurer Sita Devi Yadav, and various central members including Chitra Lekha Yadav, Sita Gurung and Khum Bahadur Khadka put forth their views.
Impeachment monition came all of a sudden
Meanwhile, the party concluded that the impeachment motion on CIAA Chief Lokman Singh Karki had come suddenly, said a press release issued by party Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Poudel, adding that NC would take final decision after holding parliamentary discussion on it.
The party also decided to launch a month-long campaign in all districts and provinces for expansion of party organization and consolidation of all sister organizations of the party.
The meeting also expressed deep grief over the demise of Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
