Justice sought for victims of conflict-period sexual violence

Kathmandu, Sept 21: A demand has been made that the government should create an atmosphere for registering complaints of sexual violence dating back to the country’s decade-long conflict.
The participants of a programme was organised here today,marking the International Day of Peace, voiced for ensuring justice to the victims of sexual violence that took place during the conflict. Identities of perpetrators in such crime be established through a fair probe and they should be brought to book. Justice must to be ensured for the victims of wartime sexual violence, they stressed.
The programme was jointly organised by Women Rehabilitation Center, National Alliance of Women Human Rights Defenders and Women for Women Forum, Nepal.
The participants also demanded for long-term psycho-social counseling and health services to the victims free of cost.
WOREC Chair Dr Renu Adhikari Rajbhandari called on the government should ensure rights of those affected by sexual harassment during the conflict to live with dignity in the society. RSS
