Sunsari, Oct 25: Chief Election Commissioner Dr Ayodhi Prasad Yadav said although the constitution has given the Election Commission (EC) many rights and responsibilities, the EC is slow off the mark for the financial constraints.
Referring to many incidents wherein many countries halted elections for failing to update voter list, he, however, said the EC has been providing people with their rights to vote and would remain committed to it.
Dr Yadav was inaugurating a regional workshop relating to voter name-list and election organised by the Sunsari branch of the EC.
Almost a generation of people has been deprived of their right to vote, elections in local body have not be held for nearly two decade, the CEC said discussions were underway to specify the right age of individuals to vote.
He said the EC was updating all election-related processes despite challenges. The programme aims to train district election officers of 25 districts to update voter name-list in a convincing manner, he added.
According to him, the EC was in hurry to complete the election preparation within coming April. However, a lot of works including bringing various directives related to election education, and election law by EC are on hold in view of the political uncertainty.

On the occasion, Officiating Chief District Officer at Sunsari, Gopal Prasad Parajuli, said that the activeness shown by EC has brought hope among people that the election would be held soon.

Election officers from 25 districts in region have participated in the training. RSS
