Kathmandu, Dec 4: Newly appointed Dean of Tribhuvan University, Institute of Medicine (IoM) Prof Dr Jagdish Prasad Agrawal assumed office Sunday.
The Tribhuvan University had appointed Dr Agrawal as the IoM Dean Saturday, enforcing the agreement reached with agitating Dr Govinda KC who had been on his 10th fast-unto-death, putting forth a charter of different demands that also includes the appointment of the IoM Dean on seniority basis.
Dr KC ended his hunger strike on the 22nd day Sunday morning and the new IoM dean assumed office.
On the occasion, the IoM new dean expected for support and cooperation from all quarters to make his tenure meaningful and pledged to stand against any misconduct in medical education.
On the other hand, the IoM Save Struggle Committee-2073 BS padlocked the Office of Dean, following the appointment of Agrawal. It has defended the appointment of the erstwhile dean terming it was legal.
Prior to this, TU Vice Chancellor Dr Tirtha Khaniya had appointed Prof Dr KP Singh as the IOM Dean, prompting Dr KC to begin the hunger strike.
