Melamchi, Jan 7: Indian ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rae laid the foundation stone of a cooperatives building here on Saturday, on the occasion of the first general meeting of the Baruwachhap Women Multi-purpose Training Cooperatives Limited.
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Rae said that the government of India has been providing different sorts of relief support to Nepal after the earthquake in April 2015 and he had come here to extend cooperation for the construction of the cooperatives building following his meeting with the earthquake survivors who were displaced from Bruwa VDC and have been living in temporary camps in Kathmandu.
He said the country’s development would not be possible without women empowerment and since the cooperative was a women farmers’ cooperative it would help in women empowerment. “Women are the foundation of social development,” he said.
Stating that construction of development infrastructures for health, education, road and drinking water in Baruwa VDC were in the priority of the government of India, he said that he would draw the Government of Nepal’s attention on this matter soon.
It is stated that Australian women have contributed 10 thousand dollars for the construction of the cooperatives building while India has provided a Bolero jeep to the cooperatives. The Zonta Club, Kathmandu has provided a machine costing Rs 2 million for making soap to the cooperatives. RSS
