Agnidahan’s lead actress feted

Pokhara, Nov 11: An actress playing a lead role in the motion picture ‘Agnidahan’ produced by Manchhe Boksi Hunna Kahile National Awareness Academy was feted on Thursday in Pokhara.

Ministry of Information and Communications Secretary, Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya, honored Sunakhari Pariyar (Maili) with a shawl and a letter of appreciation amidst a function organized by the Academy – which has been fighting to eradicate the scourge of the false accusations of witchcraft.

Secretary Thapaliya said witchcraft had gained a foothold in the society due to superstition and added that the government would coordinate with all concerned stakeholders and authorities to end such depravity in the society.

Academy’s Chairman, Kovidasaran Upadhaya, argued there is no such thing as witches and spoke vehemently against inflicting any kind of violence against those falsely accused of practicing witchcraft. He confided that the move ‘Agnidahan’ was created to raise such awareness in the society.

Stating that the movie’s filming has been completed, Upadhaya claimed that the movie has strived to present the insult, physical assault, social ostracization and even murder of people falsely accused of practicing witchcraft.

The Academy plans to declare Nepal a country free of alleged witches within the next 15 years with support and solidarity of the government and the civilians. RSS
