Gaushala, Sept 13: The Indian Seema Surakshya Bal (SSB) on Monday thrashed two Nepali nationals at Matihani VDC of Mahottari district in the belief they were Indian smugglers.

The SSB stationed at Madhabapur of Bihar’s Madhubani district entered Nepal’s Matihani – 7 at around 3 pm while chasing two smugglers and beat up locals, Ganesh Chaudhary and Mahesh Mahato.

They were whipped with sticks and thrashed with boots inflicting serious injuries, according to report.

Two Indian nationals carrying two smuggled sacks of cement heading towards Nepal from Madhabapur Bazaar were stopped by the Indian SSB at the border but they managed to flee and disappeared after entering Matihani – 7.

The SSB wrongly accused Chaudhary and Mahato – who were with their families at Matihani- 7 – of being the same smugglers and beat them up.

At present, the locals and the SSB are in a tense standoff at Matihani and Madhabapur border points of the two countries. The border point has remained shut since Monday afternoon. RSS
